Twenty years ago, when I was an art student, my neighbour, a man in his sixties, gave me a few small packets of gold powder.
He knew I was studying art and thought I would find a use for it one day.
He told me it was real gold. Over the years, I've used it in many paintings.
This artwork contains the very last squeeze from the oldest packet, the one I'd kept for the longest. I even embedded the wrapper into the painting.
For me, this painting is a reminder that the people who quietly believe in us often become part of our journey in ways we never expect.
